Morning

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness.

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth . . . so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”

For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

Evening

“You were as a brand plucked out of the burning.”

The sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling has seized the godless: “Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?”—Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again.—For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.—Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others.

Be ready in season and out of season.—Save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear.

“Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts.”—Who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Morning

“If you are returning to the LORD with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtaroth from among you and direct your heart to the LORD and serve him only.”

Little children, keep yourselves from idols.—“Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”—“You cannot serve God and money.”

“You shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God.”—“Serve him with a whole heart and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches all hearts and understands every plan and thought.”

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.—“Man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.”—Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God.

Evening

“When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.—Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith.—Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths.

“But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come.”—“Blessed are those servants whom the master finds awake when he comes.”—Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
