From Catholic.org:Rev. Stephen A. Privett, S.J., president of the Jesuit University of San Francisco, has announced his intention to be received into the Episcopal Church, stating that "the Vatican is wrong on too many issues." Fr. Privett acknowledged that a rift had long been developing between the theology taught at the University of San Francisco and traditional Catholic doctrine.
"The Episcopal Church has more accepting stances on many issues that the Catholic Church is flatly wrong about," said Privett. "The Vatican has been far too overbearing when it comes to requiring Catholic doctrine to be enforced at Catholic universities." Privett has stated that the campus medical center will continue offering birth control and the chapel will begin celebrating gay marriages. Both violate Catholic teaching. ... Privett recently announced his engagement to the captain of the men's soccer team. "Bruce and I can no longer live a lie," Privett said, stating that celibacy is no longer practical for Catholic priests. |
